Gene-Therapy Deaths Raise Ethics Issues

In light of the numerous problems linked to gene-therapy studies experts say that patients should be very cautious when considering enrollment in such a trial especially if the disease is not life-threatening or is under control with available medication. The FDA has not announced plans to review its criteria for evaluating the trials and the agency did not respond to repeated requests for comment by press time.
