SA’s Synergyst Research is expanding its national reach

Based in San Antonio Synergyst has recently entered into a trio of Florida markets — Jacksonville Miami and rlando — and plans to further expand its partnership efforts to at least a half-dozen additional cities over the next six to 12 months. Synergyst is hiring clinical research consultants for these new markets. They will seek out physicians and physicians groups interested in lucrative clinical trial opportunities and then work to connect them with various biotech pharmaceutical and medical device companies — including a number of the major players like. For a flat fee Synergyst provides participating physicians with marketing legal financial recruitment and regulatory services support out of its San Antonio headquarters… Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers prove the safety and efficacy of their medications or treatments before they can receive the necessary approvals to market their respective products in the United States. "Clinical research is rewarding to those who participate in it" says Dr. Alan Preston who prior to founding Synergyst in 2003 was CE of four different managed-care payors and also a large multi-specialty physicians group. "Not only is the physician helping determine the future safety and efficacy of drugs that reach the marketplace" he says "but for many clinical-trial patients they get free medical care that otherwise would not have been available to them as well as access to some of the most cutting-edge products.

Department of HealthThe Department of Health’s budget for health research for 2006-07 is £753m. f this £50m is allocated for capital funding; the rest is allocated to research through a portfolio of national research programmes. The funding supports clinical research in the NHS research commissioned for policy development and the NHS costs incurred in supporting research funded by other bodies such as the Research Councils and charities. Some funding is provided to increase capacity to undertake research and to underpin the UK Clinical Research Collaboration and priority disease research networks. National Institute for Health ResearchThe National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) was launched on the 1 April 2006 following the publication of the Government’s strategy Best Research for Best Health: A new National Health Research Strategy in January 2006. The strategy outlines the direction that NHS research will take to build a vibrant and world-class research environment in England. The Institute is being established on a phased basis as each of its key work areas are introduced.
