Design: Descriptive Selling: Twenty-six General Clinical Research Centers (GCRC) in the Western United States Sample: ne hundred nine GCRC clinical research nurses Methods: Subjects completed the self-administered Clinical Trials Nursing Questionnaire (CTNQ) a valid and reliable tool that consists of 12 subscales with 154 items for assessing the research nurse role. Subjects were asked about activities and responsibilities in a variety of research nursing roles perceptions and experiences professional characteristics and demographic characteristics. Major utcome Variables: a) the frequency of performance of and perceived importance of research-related activities; b) demographic organizational end professional nursing role characteristics; and c) adherence to good clinical practices. Findings: Respondents reported that they were more likely to participate in protocol assessment protocol planning at study initiation informed consent and implementation of the protocols and less likely to participate in protocol planning prior to study initiation subject recruitment and investigational drug and data management areas. Although findings suggest that clinical research nurses generally do not participate in all of the components listed on the CTNQ the results indicate the majority of respondents share a belief that all of the components are important.

Begin by equipping your office to conduct a clinical research project. Clinical research is more than just practicing urology. You may need to invest in additional equipment such as special refrigerators to keep medications (usually a -700C freezer) EKG machines and even certain kinds of urologic equipment that may be required for studies. You may have to upgrade your computer hardware as much of the data is now transmitted electronically to the pharmaceutical company conducting the study. Your greatest cost will be in hiring a clinical study coordinator.
