Hummer is a volunteer with peration Smile a worldwide children’s medical charity that has provided surgery to children with correctable facial deformities since 1982. Hummer 48 a nurse who works as clinical coordinator for the Frederick-based Clinical Research Management became involved with the charity in 1995. She recently returned from India her ninth mission with peration Smile. Earlier trips have included traveling to Russia the Philippines Peru Morocco and China. “I feel like I’m blessed to have the opportunity to go abroad and help people in rural areas” Hummer said. “Without peration Smile many of them wouldn’t get the medical attention they need.
