Motley Fool – Feb 26, 2008
Jefferies analyst David Windley said Kendle’s “sloppy” profit management and slower order conversion are now included in the stock price. Kendle is scheduled to report fourth-quarter results before the start of trading on Wednesday and both Windley and Todd Van Fleet of First Analysis Securities noted that competing research organizations have posted solid results for the quarter. “Clinical research organization industry trends are strong and Kendle has been gaining share” Windley said. “We expect strong wins to continue in the fourth quarter. Windley added that Kendle reported strong contract bookings in the first three quarters of 2007 while Van Fleet said mid- and late-stage service providers including Parexel International Corp. and ICN PLC did well in the fourth quarter. The consensus of analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial expects Kendle to report a profit of 50 cents per share in the fourth quarter.

When this happens typically their only option is surgical removal of the bladder. Now researchers at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University Medical Center are investigating an FDA-approved metastatic breast-cancer drug called Abraxane® that may prove a safe and effective alternative to surgery for these patients. Bladder cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer in men and the ninth leading cause of cancer in women in the United States. In a given year more than 60000 new cases are diagnosed and 13000 will die from the disease. "When the standard treatment does not work currently the only option is surgical removal of the bladder — something that for all patients is unappealing and for some sicker patients is not even possible. With this study we hope to find an effective second line medical option for these patients" says Dr.

India’s largest CRAMS firm gathers momentum
In-PharmaTechnologist.com – Feb 26, 2008
He also believes that the emergence of CRAMS in India is a changing paradigm and one that needs to be followed if the country is to move with the times. f the $34bn in global outsourcing expenditure in 2005 60 per cent was spent on contrac manufacturing 7 per cent on custom chemical synthesis and 33 per cent went to clinical research. In 2010 the overall expenditure will have risen to $50m and clinical research will have gained a 5 per cent market share at the expense of contract manufacturing. However progress in this new arena is very slow for Indian firms as discovery R&D is still nascent in the country and in order to really succeed in this space manufacturers need to rid themselves of their generic mindset said Kaul. "For example currently a generics firm that is doing well will allocate some money to R&D but when times get tough innovative research is the first thing to get cut" he said. "The current short-to medium-term view held by most firms needs to be changed to transcend to a medium-to long-term view. " So far India has only managed to attract $360m in drug discovery investment by foreign multinationals – a pitiful sum said Kaul who added that China is currently in the same position.
