The money they raise goes to a children’s oncology group; some of it returns to Boise’s own Mountain States Tumor Institute. Last year 33 Boise supporters shaved their heads raising $21504; this year they’re aiming for $25000. For the first time more women than men have signed up said Tammie Eslinger an organizer of the event who works as a clinical research coordinator at Mountain States. A couple of shavees as they’re known will donate their ponytails to the wig charity Locks of Love which isn’t affiliated with St. Baldrick’s but does take hair if it is long enough. Luper’s family friend 10-year-old Caleigh Conn is shaving her head too. She said her friends support her though none of them are going to shave their heads with her.
