CSIR Director General and Department of Scientific and Industrial Research Secretary Prof Samir K Brahmachari inaugurated building marking the institute’s Foundation Day. The unit will be involved in clinical research especially on new drugs that are under development. “Such type of research is known as Phase-I clinical trials and is an important phase of development of new drugs. The unit is equipped with all the modern facilities for monitoring the effects of new drugs on human beings. It is highly skilled research and such facility is available at very few centres in India” said the PGI spokesperson. The first study to be initiated at the unit will be funded by the Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) Lucknow which has developed a new drug that will be evaluated in the unit.
