Alarming trends are the focus of new drug Barmer GEK reports: According receive nearly 14 percent of alcohol-dependent people in Germany prescribe strong sleeping pills with additional high potential for addiction. One in three people with dementia regularly receives strong sedative – in spite of increased mortality risk. And almost half of the 20 best-selling birth control pills in 2010 to contain novel hormones with a twice as high thromboembolic risk as older proven drugs.
