The global biotech industry last year achieved a record profit of 4.7 billion U.S. dollars. This represents an increase of 30 percent over the previous year. However, the U.S. is the only region that made ​​it to profitability.
With an increase of 33 percent in the U.S. increased the profits of listed companies to 4.9 billion U.S. dollars. The other three biotechnology regions: Europe, Canada and Australia could not exceed the threshold for winning: While slightly in Europe and the net loss decreased from 467 million to 459 million U.S. dollars, the loss increased in Canada to eleven million to 336 million U.S. dollars and in Australia from 542 million to 681 million U.S. dollars.
